Kubernetes Backup & Restore

Integrated Kubernetes Backup & Restore for ,Any App & Any K8s Cluster

With Rafay, enterprises leverage an integrated platform for backup and disaster recovery of the Kubernetes control plane and application data across data centers, public clouds and remote/edge locations.

Automate Kubernetes backups and prep for disaster recovery for both clusters and apps.

Platform and operations teams need an easy-to-use, scalable, and secure solution for backup/restore, disaster recovery, and migration of Kubernetes applications. In many cases, these teams have to build, integrate and support their own backup and restore capability. With Rafay's Backup and Restore Service, enterprises:

Centrally configure, automate and operationalize disaster recovery (DR)

Eliminate manual handling of backup credentials for enhanced security

Leverage easy to use workflows for creating and managing backups for the entire fleet of clusters

Have flexible controls to specify what data to include and exclude as part of the backup

Standardize Your K8s Backup Policies

Administrators can create and manage backup policies and locations per project which are in turn mapped to a business unit, team or operating environment. These can then be leveraged across the entire fleet of clusters in the project providing a consistent experience.

Improve Security with Automated Handling of Backup Credentials

Harden security posture by eliminating manual handling of backup credentials on a fleet of clusters. Secure and automate the distribution of backup credentials to clusters where backup and recovery operations need to be performed.

Automation Workflows for Backup & Restore

DevOps teams can develop automation in minutes using an easy to use CLI and REST APIs.

Operations teams can use extremely easy to use, integrated workflows to reduce operational complexity. Leverage one step workflows to restore data from backups during disaster recovery events. Enabling backup for a cluster is as simple as enabling a toggle. The Backup agent will be automatically deployed to the cluster and configured with required backup credentials.

Fine Grained Controls

Admins are provided with fine grained control over what data (cluster control plane, persistent volumes, namespaces etc) needs to be included and excluded as part of the backup. Admins also have control over where backups should be stored and how long they need to be retained before they are automatically deleted. Specify retention periods for how long backups should be retained and automatically delete expired backups.

Backup & Restore FAQs

Why do you need to backup Kubernetes containers?

Backing up a Kubernetes cluster, and the nodes and applications they run ensures that the data, configurations, and files are protected.

Can Kubernetes containers and apps be restored if they are not backed up?

For stateful applications, it will likely not be enough to restore an application’s state and Kubernetes resources. Backup of your Kubernetes applications and data – both etcd snapshots and persistent volumes – are essential and should be incorporated into your standard operational procedures.

What are the benefits to automated & integrated cluster backups?

Automating common backup and recovery tasks with an integrated solution reduces the operational overhead and risk associated with complex orchestration required to restore application data and cluster state while demonstrating compliance.
