What Is Programmable Edge? Operating Distributed AI and Cloud-Native Infrastructure

Rafay Platform Available in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace

We are excited to share news today that Rafay Systems’ Container Delivery Network (CDN) is now available in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. Developers now have the ability to leverage Rafay’s Programmable Edge™ platform to distribute, manage and run containerized microservices closer to users and devices.

My Edgy Predictions for 2019

Intel vs AMD — The Debate Is Apparently Still Raging

I walked into the office earlier this week to find a serious discussion raging amongst the engineering team. Concerned that the team had hit some technical roadblock, I skipped my customary walk to the coffee machine and instead grabbed a chair in the bullpen.

The Future of Edge Computing: Not Just for IoT

Our good friend and advisor, Debashis Saha (VP Infrastructure, Intuit ), just published a great blog in InformationWeek that underscores the Rafay Systems thesis: Edge Computing is so much more than IoT! With the continuing avalanche of computing demand and data moving compute and data closer to the user is now a necessity.

Inaugural State of The Edge" Report"

Edge computing is a tremendous new opportunity that has captured the industry’s imagination. The performance and security improvements possible at the infrastructure edge promise to fundamentally improve application performance.

When It Comes To The Edge, We Need To Think Bigger

Yes, Edge computing is a massive opportunity by any measure ($6. 7B by 2022 according to this Markets & Markets report ), but maybe we need to think bigger.

Rethinking Cloud-Native Architectures In The Age Of Multi-Cloud

As James Markarian stated in his recent Infoworld article , “[when] it comes to the cloud, best-of-breed wins. ” James also discussed how the quest for best-of-breed will drive multi-cloud adoption, giving the example of how a Microsoft-centric enterprise may choose Microsoft Azure for their apps, while choosing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS) for data analysis jobs.

SiliconAngle & Team Rafay Discuss all Things Edge Computing

Stu Miniman with SiliconANGLE Media is one of the more vocal voices in the analyst community discussing Edge Computing use cases. Stu tends to bring a very pragmatic point of view to discussions and is an informed skeptic.

How Much Does Network Latency Really Matter?

The blog was originally published on LinkedIn . Does lower network latency make a difference to performance?

The Edge Is A Misnomer

The Edge is clearly a hot topic. And the massive number of responses to my previous blog asking whether the Edge is killing the Cloud is ample evidence of how many differing and passionate opinions exist out there.

Edge Computing is Not Killing the Cloud?

Edge computing is the next phase in the evolution of cloud-native applications and will mature to become a critical building block for all applications delivered over the Internet Application owners and operations teams clearly recognize that some workloads are best run closer to endpoints, i. e.

The Programmable Edge: Faster and Easier

At Rafay Systems we're defining the Programmable Edge . In our view, the Edge is as close as you, as an application owner, can get to your end users.

Is Your Application Cloud Native?

Here’s my litmus test to determine whether an application is cloud native: It MUST be able to run entirely on spot instances in a public cloud environment. The application must be designed such that any one instance being shut down randomly should have no material impact on the application’s core functions.

Introducing The Programmable Edge

The dynamics of the Internet are changing. Previously, data traveled primarily in one direction: to end users.
